数学マウンテニアーズ: 7 歳と 8 歳の子供向けの活発な数学クラブ

Math Mountaineers is an ongoing math club that will help your seven or eight year old child develop a positive relationship with math. Drawing on the Charlotte Mason method, each class will focus on helping children engage with mathematical ideas for themselves. As children play with math, their confidence will soar!

At this age we want children to develop a good sense of number, understand the decimal system and place value, and solve problems using arithmetic. These ideas are at the core of Math Mountaineers. However, it is also fun to introduce new math topics at a beginner level, like probability and functions, and we will explore these, too.

Each week we will investigate a new topic. These topics will help children develop a good sense of number, understand the decimal system and place value, and solve problems using arithmetic. These themes are at the core of Math Mountaineers. However, we will also enjoy excursions into areas of math like functions, probability, and geometry. 

Topics will be selected to be relevant and interesting to the children in the club, but you can expect themes like:
--Subtraction Scramble: Subtracting up to three digit numbers
--Divide and Conquer: Dividing a group into equal parts
--Shape Spotters: Recognizing similar and congruent shapes
--Probability Peaks: Are events likely, not likely, or impossible?
And so much more!

Math should never be boring, so I use lots of of concrete, practical examples, discussion, and games to engage children in the topic of the day. 

In each club meeting we will:
--Meet Up - Meet your fellow mountaineers and share about ourselves.
--Warm Up - Get ready to head up the hills with some simple exercises.
--Climb Up - Explore the math topic for the day through games and activities.
--Circle Round - Gather round the ‘fire’ and help create math stories.

Children are welcome to join the club any time. This club is most suitable for children in first or second grade (in the US) or Year 1/2 (in the UK).
