Welcome Outschool Students!

In our 3rd-grade class, students will be introduced to a years worth of math curriculum! Whether your student is entering into the 3rd grade or has completed the grade and needs a refresher on various mathematical concepts - this class is perfect!

Our class provides students with an immersive experience, as we use multiple learning differentiations to ensure all abilities are met! Math should be embraced by students and teachers with excitement, versus anxiety and fear. Our class brings forth the joy of what math can be through the use of various techniques. Remember, not every child learns in the same manner! Whether your student is homeschooled or attends traditional school, what makes our class different is the use of online platforms. We utilize technological advances in gamified forms such as Genially, Kahoot, Blooket, and Nearpod!

📚 Our Class Experience 📚

Each meeting, at the start of class we will complete a daily warm-up that helps stimulate our minds of the information taught the week prior. The teacher will then cover the math concept for that day through a 'mini lesson' for students to follow along. All lessons covered will be presented via Nearpod which allows students to follow along with the lesson, as well as various practice problems in real time. Providing students with a gamified experience can enhance their engagement and lesson retention! Students will have worksheets to use outside of class as guided homework to ensure the information is retained.

Outside of each live meeting, at the start of each week, students will be given the outline of which math concepts will be taught; along with worksheets to complete. Of course, students will complete said worksheets outside of class time to enhance the concepts learned for that specific day!

❓What are the gamification websites provided?❓

🔗 Nearpod is a website that students will be directed to EVERY meeting. Nearpod is where our lessons will be conducted, as well as real-time student interaction. Nearpod is a free website that students will go to, and will be given a PIN CODE to enter at the start of class. Please note: there are no logins needed or the need to register/sign up. Students will simply enter nearpod.com into their web browser, and type in the code provided by the teacher. Nearpod is a gamified experience that allows the teacher to not only provide the lesson, but students will complete various math problems along the way to ensure the information taught is being retained. Nearpod allows the teacher to visually see the students work privately without the fear of other students seeing and potentially having the "wrong" answer. The experience allows the teacher to assess student comprehension, and to pivot if needed (meaning cover the topic a more if needed).

🔗 Genially is a website and link that will be provided for extra practice after each class. Genially is a gamified format for students to practice their math skills learned in class that day. The best part is, families do not need to log into a website or utilize a pin code. It's completely free to you by the teacher, as well as fun and engaging for your student!
Each Sunday before the start of our week, the teacher will post the worksheets needed for the week. The teacher will also include the math concept we will cover for the week, with a discussion board for students to partake in the "classroom" (such as...what do students know about the topic, do they have experience with said topic, etc.). Providing the students with a classroom discussion board each week will help the teacher gauge student knowledge, and how to differentiate classroom material to better prepare students for an awesome week!

🔗 Kahoot & Blooket are both free websites that will be used as another means of gamified learning or practice. Depending upon the days lesson, we may have extra time to play a "game" that will provide students with practice of the lesson. For instance, if we are learning about rounding numbers, the teacher will provide a game regarding rounding.

🌻 Method of Teaching & Learning Abilities 🌻

Beyond the use of technology, the teaching style I have is student centered, this way instruction will be based on how well the students are taking in the information. My goal is to guide students, and to ensure they feel comfortable on their journey of learning mathematical concepts! As their teacher, I am able to reach all learning types: Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinaesthetic.
