In this weekly class, your child will learn and practice a simple strategy to use when solving word problems. We will discover the C.U.B.E.S. Strategy (Circle, Underline, Box, Evaluate, and Solve) and practice the skill during the class. Students will learn what it means to understand and then solve a word problem by breaking it into more understandable parts (C.U.B.E.S.) as well as how to determine the correct operation based on the key words in the question. We will have several opportunities in the class to practice the strategy with many word problem examples. Please see upcoming schedule below:

Week 1: August 15: Using the C.U.B.E.S. Strategy to solve Double Digit Addition Word Problems
Week 2: August 22: Using the C.U.B.E.S. Strategy to solve Double Digit Subtraction Word Problems
Week 3: August 29: Using the C.U.B.E.S. Strategy to solve 1 by 2 Digit Multiplication Word Problems
Week 4: September 5: Using the C.U.B.E.S. Strategy to solve Division Word Problems 

I will use a PowerPoint presentation to teach the material. I include an explanation of the strategy, several word problems, and interactive activities to develop the concept. I use both direct teaching as well as student led. My presentation includes direct instruction to present the content as well as fun activities to engage the students. Students will participate in discussion throughout the lesson in order for me to gauge their understanding and help develop it more. No previous knowledge on the topic of C.U.B.E.S. is required. 

I have taught in elementary school for 15 years and I am certified in Pre-K through 5th grade. I am very experienced and am prepared to help your child improve their math skills!
