Fins, echolocation, blubber and baleen are just a few of the adaptions that marine mammals have that allow them to survive in their ocean habitat. Through an interactive presentation, class discussion and teacher demonstration, we will explore the adaptations marine mammals have evolved to allow them to communicate, eat, sleep and move in the ocean. Our discussion will center around the following species: Narwhal, Manatee, Sea Otter, Humpback Whale and Hawaiian Monk Seal. Class begins...
Upon completion of this course students will be able to: -categorize mammal adaptations as behavioral, structural or physiological. -identify characteristics of mammals and marine mammals.
Marine and environmental science have been passionate pursuits of mine since childhood. I feel that this passion, combined with my education, versatile teaching experience and inquiry-based approach to teaching will spark student's curiosity.
