Do you enjoy the Wizarding World of Harry Potter? Maybe you're more into Disney's Descendants Series? Do you love all things magic? All you need is your very own, one-of-a-kind magic wand?! Then this course is for you! In this course, you will follow along with Miss Steph (Mme Paturel) as she walks you through all the steps on how to create your very own wand. This course will take approximately an hour to an hour and a half to complete and is delivered entirely virtually. While we wait for the glue to dry we can chit chat about our favourite magical moments on screen! Miss Steph is a huge Potterhead! What do you enjoy watching? Once the wands are cooled they will be ready to paint and voilà! The wands are ready to reveal to the others in the class! Bippity Boppity Boo! * * * * * Materials will be needed prior to the start of the course and students should feel safe using and handling a hot glue gun. If not, adult supervision is needed to follow along. No prior knowledge needed to create your own wand. Knowledge of how to use a hot glue gun, and how to paint are a bonus and those who are crafty will be encouraged to expand their abilities by trying new things. * * * * * Here are the items needed for this course: - wooden chopsticks, the kind you'd get with takeout. If you do not have any of these, kabob sticks can work, however they are easily breakable. A thin dowel from the arts and crafts section works too. Make sure it's made of wood and not plastic! - hot glue gun (I use a smaller handheld one that does not heat up to a high degree like the larger sized ones) - several glue sticks for the glue gun. Colour does not matter as it will be painted over top - acrylic paints in the colours your child would like for their wand - paintbrush to paint the wand Optional items: - a placemat to keep work area clean. - apron or other similar smock to keep clothes clean. - "fillers" these can help bulk up the hot glue, requiring less hot glue. Craft supplies like tinsel, or foam balls work well for this. Pompoms and pipe cleaners can also work if completely covered with glue too. - a piece of foam, to help anchor the wand while dripping glue or while painting. - A hot gun, used often for embossing and other arts and crafts. Not necessary, but can be useful if wanting to create a more customized wand shape. - a bowl of ice. This can help cool down the hot glue so the wand keeps its shape. - a jar of water for the paint. - an easel for the paint. * * * * * Parents when signing up your child for the course, please specify your child's strengths or needs in terms of their arts and crafts abilities and their use of a hot glue gun. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me, Miss/Mme Steph Paturel ***French Immersion Students*** Stay tuned for this course offering in French for French as a second language learners!
