In this 5 week class, learners will explore the layers of the Earth and discover how rocks form through the rock cycle.  They will also investigate each step in the cycle by creating a hands-on model using starburst candies.  Learners will spend time looking at different types of Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic rocks.  They will explore characteristics of each rock and examine different examples of each.  

My classes are structured for each type of learning style: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic.  I use a variety of resources including lectures, slides, videos, activities, and worksheets to help make the information fun and engaging. In each class I try to create an inclusive learning environment.  Participation is always encouraged and I love when my students discuss the information with each other.  

Class Schedule
Week 1: Layers of the Earth
Week 2: The Rock Cycle
Week 3: Sedimentary Rocks
Week 4: Metamorphic Rocks
Week 5: Igneous Rocks

Learners will explore the layers of the Earth (Crust, Mantle, Outer Core, Inner Core).  They will discover the steps in the rock cycle and examine the different processes that form each rock.

Learners may need to use scissors at different times during class. Safety scissors for young learners are always recommended.

- Pencil
- Printer (for worksheets)
- White and construction paper
- 3 Starburst Candies (different colors)
- 1 Ziplock Bag
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Crayons or Colored Pencils
