Learners will improve their reading, interpretation, and analysis skills by doing a close reading of Les Miserables by Victor Hugo.

I am a licensed teacher with a certification in middle school English/ language arts.  Through my art education certification and teaching experience, I have had training and teaching experience in art analysis and criticism, which requires many of the same skills, thought processes and techniques as analyzing literature does.  I also have over a decade of experience in tutoring middle school, high school, and college-level students in reading, analyzing, responding to, and criticizing a wide variety of world literature.  I’ve worked with hundreds of students who were struggling and used a variety of strategies to help them become more confident in their reading and writing skills.  In addition, for the past few years I have also coached and mentored a team of approximately 30 tutors to also guide them in helping their students also become more competent readers and thinkers.

Learners will be reading new sections of the novel before each class so they are ready to discuss their ideas.  This will work out to be about four chapters a week.

Learner progress will be assessed through class discussions.  We will also use Kahoot! activities to share ideas and assess understanding.
