このクラスで学べること
In this one time meeting, students will get moving to a song from a popular animated movie: Aladdin! We will begin class with a brief warm up to wake up our bodies and feel out the space, and then move on to learning a beginner musical theatre dance combination set to about a minute of the song "Friend Like Me." Dance steps may include sways, pivots, spins, and many more. We will take a small water and brain break at the halfway point and do a brief free dance to explore our own movement before returning to learning the prepared choreography. In the last few minutes of class, we will have a final performance of our dance combination (anyone at home is welcome to watch if the student wishes!). Students can also have a crown, stuffed monkey, or any other Aladdin style costumes accessible for our final performance!

By the end of our session, students will have a new knowledge of different types of dance steps used in traditional musical theater choreography, as well as how to piece together different portions of a combination. They might also learn a new song!

Students should be in a space where they have room to move (seated with headphones is not advisable for this class!). Students should also wear sensible footwear (no open toe shoes or heels). Barefoot or socked feet are welcome!

The following is OPTIONAL: If the student chooses, they may have costume pieces that are in the style of Aladdin to put on for our final performance in the last five minutes of class. Or, if they'd rather come dressed to impress, they can feel free to wear their costume the entire class!

I believe that moving our bodies is a great way to keep kids active and discover new ways to be creative, while challenging them to remember specific movements in a piece of music keeps their brains sharp.
