Minecraft is a creative game that requires a lot of thinking, consideration, and planning. One of the most interesting things students can do in this game is to build houses. In this four-week flex class, students will practice building houses in new and interesting ways.

Important:
Students MUST own a copy of Minecraft and be familiar with the controls prior to starting the class. This is a building class, so students will be completing projects and uploading pictures to share with the class.

Here's what you can expect from this class:
Each week, students will be presented with a project. There will be several demonstration videos for them to look at, as well as information about the different styles for building. Then students will create their own house in Minecraft and upload their picture (or a video, if they prefer) to the Outschool classroom to share their creations with us.

Week One: Modern houses. What makes a modern house? Students will learn the characteristics and features of a modern house and will learn some of the methods they can use to create one.

Week Two: Historical houses. How can we tell if a house is historical? What makes historical houses special? This week, we'll talk about some of the ways students can build historical-looking houses and how learning about the past can inspire us as we play Minecraft.

Week Three: Futuristic houses. Using a theme, such as a futuristic theme, can be really fun! Students will learn about how we can use our imaginations to think about ways that houses might look in the future.

Week Four: Wild and wacky houses. Sometimes houses can be a little bit strange. That's okay! Minecraft gives us the freedom to be creative! This week is all about wild, weird, and unusual houses.

This is a low-stress class designed to get your students thinking about Minecraft and interacting in new and fun ways. Students will be able to comment on one another's posts, and we'll also have worksheets and in-class activities to keep your learner interested and having fun. I'll share pictures of a variety of Minecraft creations, for example, and students can practice writing responses and offering suggestions they think could improve the creation.

You can expect:
-Your child will view weekly lessons that are posted directly in the Outschool classroom
-Your child will play Minecraft on their own time and complete assignments
-Your child will take a picture or screenshot of their creations and share those in the Outschool classroom
-Your child will complete worksheets and in-class games and activities
-Your child will develop an understanding of different types of structures
-Your child will think creatively to solve problems and learn new ideas
-Your child will learn new vocabulary words, which will be shared in class
