I’ll be using the UFLI (University of Florida Institute) manual and resources to teach phonics.  It is an explicit and systematic program that provides and solid foundation for reading.  It can be used effectively with students who are still learning some letter sounds (ie. qu, w, d/b) and for those needing intervention at any grade level.  A lesson may extend 2-3 days depending on how much is accomplished and how much time your child needs.

Skills that are targeted in each lesson;
1.  Letter sound blending and segmenting
2.  Automaticity of recognizing letters in print to their sounds
3.  Sounding out words (decoding) and spelling words (encoding)
4.  New phonics concept
5.  Reading and spelling high frequency words
6.  Reading and spelling sentences and stories

This class is fast paced and interactive.  I’ll use slides, mini lessons, digital apps and online games to teach.  

It’s important to me that both you and your child are comfortable with me.  I will focus on building a relationship with your child to gain their trust and help with their comfort during our classes.  I’m lighthearted and bring positive energy to the lessons.
