このクラスで学べること
In this four week program learners will create detailed illustrated maps of fantasy worlds of their own creation or from one of their favorite texts. Using video demonstrations for drawing techniques and art material explorations, Nearpod for exploring samples of existing real and imaginative maps for reference, with quizzes and collaboration boards, and classroom peer exchange for community brainstorming and concept development, learners will work with each other and the teacher towards the goal of a completed map. Learners will be expected to watch demonstrations, follow along, share work to the classroom, participate in real world research, reply to prompts and brainstorming pages via text or video reply, and participate in feedback and storytelling. Our learning focuses will include: Week 1: Interpreting text for images, looking at art materials for map making, division of land and plotting key points of interest. Week 2: Inspired by topography to show believable land masses, developing world characteristics, and illustrative style. We will use this opportunity to consider showing cities and characters. Week 3: Drawing local and world climate, or weather, on our maps, using contrast and colour. We will be developing colour palettes to depict mood and ‘voice’. Week 4: Map symbols and supporting elements (such a compass, monsters, storms, treasure), and illustrated legends . Learners can expect to draw, colour, and take notes during this program. The use of brainstorming pages and reference images will enhance the learner’s illustration and as such parents may want to aid in the search tools of their learners research (for example - find an image of a cave entrance or snow capped mountain). This class is ideal for young artists who enjoy fantasy, video or board games, story telling, AND drawing. Drawing experience is optimal but beginners are welcome.
