Wondering what "Shabbat" is? Come find out! Taught by a teacher with an MA in Jewish Studies, this class introduces students to the weekly holiday of Shabbat. I will explain the concept of Shabbat as a special time in the week. We will also discuss the rules about what, and what isn't, supposed to happen on Shabbat. Students will see a demonstration of the lighting of Shabbat candles and the Havdalah candle. We'll also read a short children's story, and discuss the traditional foods of...

• Students will learn about the Shabbat traditions children celebrate in the United States,
and around the world
• Students will have a chance to casually interact with peers around a shared learning goal
• Students will practice using their listening skills and their speaking skillsI have an MA in Jewish Studies from the University of Indiana-Bloomington. I have also completed several other academic Jewish Studies and Religious Studies classes, at the graduate level. I was also raised Jewish, and I taught Hebrew school for several years!
Please bring the following items to class: Paper, crayons or markers, and pencil.
