In this class, learners will explore the world of the royal family. We will learn about how they became the royal family and challenges to the power of the monarchy. We'll learn about key events during the period and the role the monarchs played in these. We will look at the changing role of monarchy during times of war, including the final English monarch to fight in a battle and the roles of George V, George VI and Elizabeth in keeping up morale by using new technologies.

We'll look at challenges facing the monarchy during this period and learn about the role of Regent and the concept of abdication. We will also look at the changing role of the monarch within society and the growing influence of parliament in governing the country.

The class will explore changes to the geographical borders of the UK during this time period, including the development of the United Kingdom. We will also look at the rise and fall of the British Empire. We will learn about Britain's role in the slave trade and look at how monarchs responded to the Abolition of Slavery.

As well as learning about the monarchs, learners will also explore changes to laws and how the monarchs impacted the way normal people lived.

Classes will be discussion based, using images and adapted quotations to illustrated key points and develop understanding of key themes, events and concepts.
