In this on going course, learners will review phonemic awareness skills and phonics with letter sounds and letters. It is appropriate for learners who are ready for preschool/kindergarten as well as ESL learners. Let's Get Reading With Mrs. Rose: Focus on Reviewing Letter Sounds, students will REVIEW the sounds and letters of the alphabet with an emphasis on the sounds the letter symbol makes. In order to read, the importance is the sound of the letter, not the naming of the letter. Each lesson we will review the letter sounds. By modeling on my screen, students will practice building words and reading. A worksheet is provided for the student to support writing the words we build. Students will be exposed to oral language practice for phonemic awareness (recognition and play with sounds), fine motor skills to increase writing ability, and beginning phonics skills to read short vowel words. *** Students who successfully complete this class, can move onto Reading Word Families and Sight Words (which places more focus on reading word families, phrases, and word writing.)*** ***In order for me to assist your child while reading, I do require cameras to be turned on during class. It is also appropriate for those who have mastered their letter sounds and are ready to begin building words. Students MUST have letter sound knowledge to be successful in this class.

Having the materials prepared prior to class, will help your student learn organizational skills. Please provide a quiet work space for them. Worksheets will be sent out Sunday evenings. Please print prior to class. They will be posted to the classroom, as well as the learner's message area. Pencil, crayons or markers. (I have found markers to work best, as then I can see the writing when students share.) White board and dry erase markers

For 20 years, I have taught primary students. I began my teaching experience in PreK, then I moved to first grade for fourteen years. I taught kindergarten during my last two years in a brick and mortar school. I have been teaching on Outschool for 3 years. I have completed my Master's Degree in Brain Based Teaching of Literacy. My teaching style is hands-on and I use many visuals for the students. I am able to incorporate many strategies to meet the needs of all learners. This year, I have begun taking classes for certification in Dyslexia.
