In this interactive class, students will strengthen their English Language Arts (ELA) skills, including reading comprehension, creative writing, and critical thinking. We’ll work on improving writing, making connections in stories, and mastering new ELA concepts each week!

Topics we will cover:

We’ll explore important ELA topics like reading comprehension, making inferences, writing engaging stories, and learning grammar in fun, hands-on ways. Each week will feature new activities to help grow your reading, writing, and thinking skills. Whether we’re working on identifying themes, practicing punctuation, or writing creative responses, every class will provide students with fresh challenges to keep them learning and engaged.

Class structure:

*Warm-up & Review:
Each class will begin with a brief review of the weekly skill, such as grammar, reading comprehension strategies, or writing techniques. This ensures students are refreshed and ready to apply the new concept.

*Reading & Annotating:
Students will read and annotate a short passage, article, or story. They'll focus on identifying key information, making inferences, and understanding the structure of the text. I’ll guide them through the reading, providing helpful tips for annotation.

*Discussion & Practice:
After reading, we’ll engage in a group discussion to explore the main ideas and concepts of the text. Students will have a chance to share their thoughts, ask questions, and practice critical thinking skills.

*Writing Exercise:
Students will then complete a writing task that connects to the reading, such as responding to a question or writing a short paragraph. This allows them to practice organizing their thoughts, using new vocabulary, and expressing themselves clearly.

*Wrap-up & Feedback:
We’ll wrap up the class by reviewing what we’ve learned, answering any remaining questions, and giving students feedback on their writing. This ensures they leave the class with a clear understanding of the topic and areas to improve.

How I teach:

I’ll use a variety of digital tools, including slides, interactive activities, and Google Docs, to keep things engaging and productive. Students will work in real-time, and I’ll provide immediate feedback to help them improve their skills and build confidence. By using a hands-on approach, students get a chance to practice, learn, and ask questions while staying actively involved in the process.
