Students will learn: - To correctly hold the recorder - Read music - The correct way to blow into the recorder - Count Value of notes - Music Theory - Play Recorders in time with other classmates - Play a simple harmony piece No prior experience is required for this class. I like to have fun and teach by example. Students can feel free to ask questions throughout the class. I have taught Recorder and Flutophone classes for over 15+ years. Karate Recorders was by far, the students favorite way to learn recorders. The final class, will be the 16th class. Students will do the musical checkups on pages 27 and 28 for homework and bring them to the 16th class. (This will be in our Part 2 Karate Recorder) We will go over them for correct answers, answer any questions, and play some of the students favorite songs we learned throughout the classes. Students are required to purchase their own book and recorder. I hope to see you in Karate Recorder Class. Come prepared to earn all the karate belts. Class 1: Intro to Recorders: How to hold a recorder, how to blow into the recorder, space notes, line notes, notes going up and down, FACE notes, Every Good Boy Does Fine notes, time signatures, bar line, measure, double bar line, bar line, next door neighbors/skip notes, quarter note and rest, clap a rhythm, play a rhythm on recorder, Class 2: Review homework, interval of a 2nd and 3rd, half note and rest, Missing note names, matching symbols and notes to name, musical math, learn the note B and correct fingering. Learn to play the song: "Let's Play." If time, learn note A on page 9, Whole note and whole rest, play "Playing A." Class 3: Review Homework, Note A, Clap and play "Playing A", Clap and play " Moving," learn to play softly and loudly, Piano or Forte, Play "Stepping," and learn the symbols for piano and forte. Class 4: Review homework, learn note G and fingering, Clap and play "Playing G," Clap and play "Mary Had a Little Lamb," Musical Math Class 5: Review homework, learn time signature 3/4. Clap and play: "Pop Goes the Weasel", "Mary had a little Lamb", Explain white belt instructions. Class 6: Review homework, learn F and fingering, Clap and play "Playing F" and "Pierrot's Door", Name that note, (allow time for anyone wanting to try for a karate belt) Class 7: Review Homework, Learn note E and fingering, Clap and play "Playing E," Clap and play " Sweetly Sings the Donkey." Musical Mystery, Identifying Intervals 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, introduce dotted half note, What Time is it? ( Time signature) Class 8: Review and Belt tryouts, Introduce dotted half notes, Musical math, Crescendo, Decrescendo, Clap and play Crescendo and Decrescendo, Common Time, Play "Row, Row, Row, Your Boat." In Karate Recorders Part 2, we will finish the Music Theory book. The part 1 sections and part 2 sections are to make it easier for parents to pay the fee.

Students will learn to play the recorder by reading music. Students will specifically learn: accents marks, crescendo, decrescendo, value of notes, intervals, measures, bar line, double bar line, time signatures, common time, quarter notes and rest, half notes and half rest. . No politics or religion will be taught in this class. This class is solely for learning to read music and play the recorder. Recorders are one of the least expensive ways to learn to read music.

There are 3 religious songs in the book. They are in PART 2 ( The extension to this class) Due to Outschool's policy we will not be playing those songs. I will be substituting those songs for "Jingle Bells", "Tune of Harmony", and "On Top of Old Smokey."
