In this one-time class, we will read the fun, fall story, "It's Pumpkin Time!" by Zoe Hall. In this story we will read about the life cycle of a pumpkin in the main characters' "jack-o'-lantern patch!" We will talk about Halloween, jack-o'-lanterns, and the life cycle of a pumpkin. Next, we will make our very own paper plate pumpkin with the life cycle on the vine of the pumpkin. Students will color and cut out the "leaves" of the vine which each have a picture and the name of each stage of a pumpkin's life cycle. Students may color and cut out the leaves before class. I look forward to having your child in my class to learn about pumpkins and their life cycles!

*PDF printout (one page) - please cut out the “leaves” before class *orange paper plate (or white paper plate painted or colored orange) *green yarn, ribbon, or 3 pipe cleaners (for the vine) - pipe cleaners work very well *crayons, markers, or colored pencils (to color the pictures on the leaves from the PDF) *glue or tape *brown construction paper for the stem of the big pumpkin (can use scraps from the PDF and color it brown) *Green construction paper for the leaf of the big pumpkin (can use scraps from the PDF and color it green) **young learners would benefit from having their stem and leaf cut out before class
