This class is intended to be a basic introduction to World War II. This class will cover the causes of World War II, important military battles from both the Eastern and Western front, and the end of the war. The discussion of the end of the war will look at both the end of the war in Europe, as well as the end of the war in the Pacific. During class, some videos will be shown that will contain footage from World War II, including events like the bombing of Pearl Harbor and D-Day. These videos are intended to increase students knowledge of these events. I have worked hard to select videos on these topics that serve the purpose of youth education without obvious bias. At the end of our four weeks together, students are encouraged to complete a two page (double spaced) paper on what they have learned about World War II. While this assignment is not required, having students explain in their own words that events that we have discussed will help students to gain a deeper understanding of this course's content.

This class will include discussions of both the dropping of the atomic bomb, and the persecution of the Jewish population in Europe. Both events will be presented subjectively and discussed in terms of their historic significance during the war. Discussions on these topics are not intended to be lengthy, but student questions will be answered with age appropriate responses.
