Students are welcome to join the class any week.  This class introduces students to various genres/styles of music found around the world including Native American music and other styles of music from North America.  Below is the full schedule in detail.

As we explore each type of music, students will build their music vocabulary which will enable us to discuss what we know about the origins of each style/genre that we study and how each style of music compares to other styles.  Students will also learn the different contexts in which the styles are performed and their distinctive rhythmic and melodic traditions.  

Additionally, we will spend some time looking at connections between different styles historically.  In other words, we will talk about things like how here in the United States we moved from big band and doo-wop to heavy metal and Hip Hop in the span of about 50-60 years.  Please note that Zoom Breakout Rooms may be used during class to allow students to have small group discussions.

And Beyond just talking about the music we hear, we will also interact with the music by playing some of the rhythms we hear by clapping and tapping them.  Additionally, instrumentalists and singers can interact with the music by performing some of the things they hear as well. I designed the course to be educational, fun, and Interactive.
