このクラスで学べること
In this class, students will learn about 3 African gods of creation in order to introduce them to African mythologies. We begin in Ancient Mali, where students meet the supreme deity of the Dogon tribe, Amma. The Dogon tribe are also found in some parts of Burkina Faso and are a Niger-Congo group. Then, we travel to North Africa in the ancient civilization of Egypt where we meet Amun-Re. Finally, we end our journey in Central Africa, in the ancient Kingdom of Kongo (present-day Congo and a portion of Angola) with one of the creator gods of the Bantu group of people, Nzambi a Mpungu. Today, Congo is divided into 2 parts: Democratic Republic of Congo (Congo-Kinshasa) and Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville). While it's unclear which tribe this god belongs to, Nzambi a Mpungu is said to be a bantu god from the Congo. There will be a brief synopsis of the groups of peoples in question before diving into the myths. All myths include: -How the earth and humans were created -Other creations such as weather, the universe, etc. The class begins with me introducing myself, and then I ask the students to introduce themselves quickly. I ask comprehension questions throughout the class. There is a question & answer period of 5 mins near the end, before the activity. No prior knowledge or experience is needed for this class.
学習到達目標

教師の専門知識と資格
I've practised and studied African spirituality for the past 11 years extensively and an integral part of it is mythology because it explains the origins of mankind, rituals, celebrations, and other aspects of our diverse ways of life. My knowledge not only comes from oral history, but also from books such as The Book of Coming Forth by Day, African Myths of Origin, and several others that I had to read.
