During this one-time course, students will follow along with the process to paint a beautiful mountain scene! Featuring a beautiful cloudy sky, large pine trees, and a beautiful railroad track, this course will be a fun journey into painting a beautiful nature scene. Fundamentals of painting that will be introduced include: perspective, shading, gradients, and blending. The teaching style of this course will be demonstration while the student follows along, intermittent with check-ins and group discussions about painting. Students will be encouraged to take creative liberties with the painting and to embrace the unpredictable aspects of nature! There is no right or wrong way to do this painting. This is a chance for the student to flourish and develop their style while also learning fundamentals of acrylic painting! **It is preferred that students have used acrylic paints at least once before, but specific skills or expertise is not required as every step to this painting will be thoroughly explained.**

The goal of this class is to understand aspects of color theory, brush strokes, gradients, perspective, and blending. All of these elements will culminate into a beautiful mountain painting in the end!

Recommended materials: Acrylic paints: white, black, unbleached titanium, naples yellow, sap green, phthalo blue, phthalo green, cerulean blue, burnt umber (or similar colors) (Michaels has 24 packs for around $20) Paint brushes (Round 0, 2, 9, Angled 1/2inch, Flat 2, Liner 1, or similar brushes) Cup with water Paper towels Paint palette or paper plate Palette knife or popsicle stick to mix paints Canvas (canvas board is fine) between 6x8in and 8.5x11in (Michaels has canvas value packs between $5-10) Pencil

Hi, my name is Jess! I teach courses on audio, music, drawing, and painting.
About my audio background:
I am a graduate of the Recording Arts program at the University of Colorado Denver, and my specialties in audio for the past 4 years have included studio recording, live sound reinforcement, sound design, mixing, and mastering. I play the piano, viola, and guitar as well as utilize various types of digital synthesizers.
In addition to my Bachelor's of Science in Music I have also obtained various certifications such as Audinate's Dante Level 1 training. In 2019, I won BroadwayWorld Denver's Regional Award for Best Sound Design of a Musical for my work on Sweeney Todd with Equinox Theater Company.
You can usually find me sound designing and mixing for local theater, or in my home studio producing my own music or mixing and mastering music, podcasts, and voiceover for others.
Art background:
I have been drawing and painting for 7 years, and have sold my art professionally at comic conventions in the southwest. I specialize in realism with charcoal and graphite and landscapes and still life with acrylic paints.
My goals:
My overarching goal as a teacher for Outschool is to encourage kids to fully throw themselves into whatever it is they're passionate about. It is extremely important for me to always foster an inclusive environment and to be conscious of where everyone in the room is coming from. I know learning from home is difficult as I just completed my undergrad remotely, and I want to encourage the type of classroom interaction and the space for passion that will make you look forward to my class every week.
