I have a life-long passion for reading and writing, and for supporting students' confidence and ability in these areas. In this class, I will provide individual tutoring tailored to your child's specific needs. Whether it be-pre reading foundational skills, phonics, reading fluently, comprehension of a difficult book, or other language arts related area, I will work with your child to help them improve their skills. I suggest tutoring 1 time per week for 6 weeks. After the initial tutoring period, parents, teacher, and the student can decide if more time is needed. With parents' help, specific needs will be identified, and an individualized plan will be created. I will provide a simple parent questionnaire that will help me build a tutoring program for the student. This will include simple pre and post testing, targeted intervention, progress monitoring, and suggestions for continuing learning at home, if desired. Since this will be a 1-1 class, there will be quite a bit of interaction with the instructor.

Hello! I'm Deborah, a 24 year veteran teacher with a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and certification as a Reading Specialist K-12. I have taught English Language Arts and Reading in grades K-5 and middle school, including lessons for early reading skills (phonics, phonological awareness), comprehension in grades 2-6, and writing in grades K-6. During my teaching career, planning and leading Reading and Writing whole class and intervention lessons for Kindergarten - 6th grades was my passion. Now, I am enjoying the online interaction with a wide variety of learners, and strive to assist my students to improve and feel confident. My belief is that all students are capable, and I try to build on their strengths. I've been with Outschool for 2 years, and I love every minute of my time with my students.
