The focus of this class is on the holiday Indigenous Peoples Day in the United States. Since it exists as a replacement for Columbus Day, we will briefly talk about why many Natives want to get rid of Columbus Day. I will not go into much detail, but discussion of some of the harm he brought will be kept age appropriate. 
In the discussion about issues and triumphs for Natives in the US today, we will be discussing things like poverty, suicide, substance abuse, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, etc. The discussion will focus on moving that narrative to positive aspects of our lives like preserving cultures, languages, traditions, and ways of life and how we are present in U.S. culture and society in many ways.
