このクラスで学べること

In this one time class, learners will work with hearts to show which group has more, less, or is equal.  This class uses a friendship theme with pink and red hearts to learn, practice and / or review multiple math skills.  Learners will also add and subtract hearts using a 10 frame.  
 (Learners are welcome to bring counters to class even if they are not hearts.)  Learners will also complete and make patterns of their own using ABAB, AABAAB, AABBAABB and ABBABB patterns and pink and red crayons.   We will use pink and red hearts to add, subtract, compare, graph, and make patterns.  We will also complete a worksheet together to work on patterns.  Learners will be encouraged to make their own patterns.

受講に必要なもの

If learners have red and pink hearts, they can bring them to class and work along with me.  Otherwise I encourage learners to bring counters (cereal, small erasers, pom poms,...) so we can add and subtract together.  Learners can print the 10 frame and worksheets provided to use in class.  Learners will need a red, purple and pink crayon and any other colors of their chose to make patterns in class.

Hi, I am Theresa Purdy.  I am excited to teach about animals, science, math, language arts, kindergarten / 1st grade readiness, and conduct science and art experiments.   Photography and scrapbooking are my most passionate hobbies.  While I was my daughter's Brownie troop leader and my son's Cub Scout leader, I kept them busy with crafts, discussions, experiments and exploration.  

I received my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Murray State University and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from University of Southern University.  I taught 4th grade for 14 years, preschool for 4 years and was a kindergarten assistant for 5 years. I have two sons and a daughter.

 I learn best by doing, so I want to be able to teach children facts but also give them opportunities to practice as much as possible.   Building foundational skills is essential so that children feel confident and successful as they move on to another year of school.  It is my passion to help children understand concepts, so they do not get frustrated or develop a negative attitude toward learning.   I look forward to seeing your child in my classroom!
