The camp session is the same as the How to Draw Horses session that meets one a week for four weeks. Camp session classes I teach last just one week and the class is held at the same time for 4 days that week. Through demonstrations, practice, and feedback, students will learn to draw the horses and study up-close horse heads. Students may use pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, or pastels. Shading will be emphasized in this class. This class is suitable for beginning to advanced students. Lesson 1.) Proportions: Learn how to use average horse proportions to create your initial drawing. Learn methods to check if your drawing is accurate. Lesson 2.) Shading and continued work on drawing skills: Learn shading techniques for making the horse look realistic. Continue learning how to get proportions correct by comparing different parts of the drawing. Begin working from the horse reference photo of your choice. Lesson 3.) Eye study and texture study (horse hair): Learn how to shade eyes and hair and to add details to make them look real and continue working from the horse reference photo of your choice. Lesson 4.) Contour study of details: Learn to observe and record details accurately. Complete drawing from the reference photo of your choice.

All students will need to have these materials: - photograph of a horse (you can use photos you've taken yourself if you have any or photos you find online, in magazines, in books, or you can use a photo from my reference photos attached) - white paper (typing paper is fine for the warm-up exercises) - pencil (HB, assorted, or mechanical) -kneaded eraser -pink plastic eraser From the lists below, you only need to have the materials for the medium you choose to use during class. If you will be working in pencil only you do not need to purchase anything in addition to the materials on the list above. FOR *PASTELS: -pastel pencils -*soft and hard pastels -soft vine charcoal - grey paper for charcoal and pastel or toned grey paper pad FOR CHARCOAL: -charcoal pencil -white pencil (pastel pencil, these often come in the pack with charcoal pencils) -soft vine charcoal -pencil sharpener designed for pastel pencils - toned gray or tan sketch paper is essential for charcoal FOR COLORED PENCIL: -colored pencils - optional: toned gray or tan sketch paper. You may use white paper if you prefer it. - optional: electric pencil sharpeners work so much better for me than the handheld sharpeners, but a special purchase of the electric sharpener is not needed for this class Please let me know if you have any questions about the needed materials. *Some colors of colored pencil and pastel are labeled toxic (generally if ingested or the dust is breathed) so please read the labels.

教師の専門知識と資格
I'm a distinguished pastellist with the Pastel Society of the West Coast. My pastel portraits have been in local, national, and international group shows at various venues including the National Arts Club in NY and the Butler Institute of American Art in Ohio. My pastel portrait "Out of the Blue" was included in the book Strokes of Genius 8: Expressive Textures. If you would like to see more of my art work, please take a look at my website http://jenniferrowestudio.com.
In the classes I teach, I strive to pass on what I've learned in my own art making. Each lesson will include tips, techniques, and live help with any difficulties encountered in drawing and painting. I offer graphite, charcoal, and pastel classes for beginning to advanced students.
I've taught art classes at a homeschool co-op and privately. I've also taught math at a public high school. I hold a B.S. in Engineering Physics. I am currently homeschooling my two children, age 10 and 13. We reside in Northern California.
I'm looking forward to seeing you and the beautiful art you create in class!
