このクラスで学べること

In this class, we examine communities.  We will discuss the various types of communities we are a part of.  We will also identify the similarities and differences of various communities and compare and contrast urban, rural and suburban.  We will identify needs of communities as well as problems that communities face.
During our class time, we will have whole and small group discussions.  There will also be games and slides to illustrate/enhance our lessons and discussions.  Some of our classes will involve the students showing their work or mini projects.  I will also encourage students to interact through our Outschool classroom.  There, I will post questions, videos and photos which they can access.  
Each week, there will also be a mini project which will go along with our weekly discussions.  As we learn, students will be working on their final project, which we will present to each other in our last meeting.  They will plan and create their own, new community!  This can be done in a variety of ways--the options are limitless!  Their final projects will also include a brochure or poster about their new community, a visit from a "community member" and a map of their community.
I am excited to see what they create!
No prior knowledge about communities is necessary.  
Students should be able to use (or learn to use) the breakout room feature and the whiteboard feature in Zoom.

Hello!
I am Ms. Marie, a lover of learning, playing and creating!  I have been doing these things all of my life, and been sharing them with learners of all ages for 13 years!

I have been a "teacher" all of my life (babysitter, camp counselor, resident assistant, Peace Corps volunteer), but formally,  I have been teaching since 2009.  Much of my experience comes from teaching 3, and 4-year old children in a private preschool, and I have taught 1st and 2nd grade.

My strength as a teacher comes from  teacher my ability to follow the interest of my learners and to create meaningful, play-based learning experiences in my classes.  My classes incorporate literacy, numeracy, science and social studies in hands on ways so that learners can explore, create and engage with materials and each other.  Whether a journaling class, a preschool class or a games camp, I have a ton of energy and loads of enthusiasm!  I look forward to meeting you in my classroom!
