このクラスで学べること
We will cover the basics of safety, appropriateness and professionalism as well as the business aspect of babysitting. I will use a combination of stories from parents and children explaining what they love about their favorite babysitters to instill a sense of responsibility and pride in being a great babysitter. We will discuss methods for dealing with stressful things, such as; crying babies, sibling conflicts, deciding on a rate, communication with the parents and handling emergencies. The emphasis of this class will be on stepping into the care giver roll in a kind, focused and professional manner. Students will have a couple of written assignments. A class syllabus can be found in the File Section.

There will be one class devoted to discussing what is appropriate between the babysitter and the employer. I want to equip students to deal with any unexpected things that, hopefully, will never happen. I will keep this appropriate and light hearted.
Also, I will stress the importance of communication between the student and their own parents. I will ask the parents to open a dialogue with their student about developing a plan for staying safe and having a “Rescue Protocol”. I generally do not condone babysitting for strangers, but even with fairly well known acquaintances, there can be that unpredictable issue and students need to know they have the power to protect themselves and that their parents will help them.

I took my roll as a babysitter very seriously in my teens. Subsequently, I was very successful with getting jobs and having steady income. However, the most important thing for me was that the children knew I cared about them and had fun. Because of that, I hear to this day (a couple decades later) from the people I used to babysit that their memories of me are all fond. I have been to graduations and weddings and baby showers for many of my former “kids” and it is a delight to be a positive person in their lives.レビュー
