Basic & Enduring Concepts in World History: Improve Your Understanding of (and your grades in) History.
This course will touch on the major events that have happened in world history from a conceptual approach.

There are 18 enduring and recurring concepts in history. Each class meeting will dive deeper into a single concepts. Knowledge of these concepts provides an excellent foundation and enrichment for any core history class, but especially World History, Honors World History, AP World History and AP European History.. 

The concepts are: 
1.	Belief Systems - How have religions and belief systems affected society?

2.	Geography’s Impact - How do geography and people affect one another?

3.	Conflict - When, if ever, should people go to war? What causes conflict?

4.	Cultural Diffusion - How does cultural diffusion occur? And what are the results?

5.	Trade - What have been the intended and unintended effects of trade?

6.	Science & Technology - What are the benefits and costs of scientific and technological advances? 

7.	Political Systems - How do political systems rise, develop, and decline? 

8.	Impact of the Individual - How have individuals changed the world? 

9.	Economic Systems - How should resources and wealth be distributed? 

10.	Revolution - Why do political revolutions occur? What are their outcomes?

11.	Nationalism - How can nationalism be a unifying and a divisive force?

12.	Migration - Under what circumstances do people migrate? 

13.	Empire - How does a state gain or lose power over others? 

14.	Dictatorship - How do dictators rise and fall from power? Why do people sometimes support dictators? 

15.	Genocide - Why do people sometimes commit the crime of genocide? 

16.	Cooperation - With whom should we cooperate and why? 

17.	Democracy - Under what conditions is democracy most likely to succeed? 

18.	Human Rights - How are human rights won or lost?


Each lesson may vary though is based off of slides, lectures, and Q&A. The class will utilize many examples throughout history to learn each concept on a deeper level. Special attention will be paid to the skills connected to the AP curriculum, specifically context, chronology, causation, and change and continuity. 

Learning activities may include: watching video clips, brief readings, current events connections, discussion, brainstorming, writing brief paragraphs, and inquiry or document-based learning. In addition to having access to the class recordings, the slides from each class will be made available at the conclusion of the class to keep as a study aid.

Please note that the minimum enrollment to hold the class is 3 learners. I will give 48-hour advance notice if that is the case but will wait to cancel the class until two hours prior (in case there is last-minute interest.) If I cancel the course, you will have the choice to get your money refunded or be transferred to another section.
