REFUND POLICY:
Hub of Curiosity wants parents and caregivers to be able to enroll in our classes with peace of mind.  We are busy parents as well and understand that life happens!  The refund policy for Hub of Curiosity classes is as follows:

Semester-length co-ops are fully refundable until 30 days prior to the start of class.  Withdrawing 15-30 days prior to the start of the co-op will result in a 70% refund.  14 days before the start date, the class is non-refundable.  

Fixed-length classes (ex: meets 4x or 6x) are fully refundable until 14 days prior to the start of class.  14 days before the start date, the class is non-refundable.

Joyce Carol Oates said, “Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another’s skin, another’s voice, another’s soul.” This is an informal book club that will allow us to do just that while exploring the stories of amazing women and girls (both real and fictional) throughout different periods in history.  Together we’ll read and discuss books featuring a strong female lead character with rich historical context.  Readers will be asked to read approximately 100 pages (=/- 10 pages) each week independently and come prepared to discuss key insights and wonderings from the text.  I’ll foster round-table discussion and add foundation information from the period our current material is set.  

The Spring 2025 Book Club will cover the following four books spread evenly across the semester.
The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys 
Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys 
Beyond the Bright Sea by Lauren Wolk

It is unlikely, but IF we have time for an additional book during the semester, we will read A Daughter’s Journey by Myra Lee Glass. 

Please ensure that the content of our reading list is suitable for the age and sensitivity level of your reader.  I will always refrain from showing graphic images from difficult periods in history.  I do my absolute best to keep discussion age-appropriate and will always steer is away from something too sensitive if another learner in class wends that way.  If in doubt, please feel free to message me anytime.  

Learners process content in different ways.  I am a lover of all books – text, audio, read-alouds, etc.  Whatever works best for your learner is 100% ok with me.  

My classes are largely discussion based and require learning engagement and interaction.  As I tell my learners, “Book club is not a spectator’s sport!”  Participants should come ready to share their thoughts and ask questions about the assigned reading during our session.  I require cameras to be on throughout class.  If extenuating circumstances prevent a learner from turning their camera on, please send me a message to discuss it prior to enrolling.
