This course is the second semester of High School Literature Year 1. 

This course is designed for homeschool learners eager to explore classic literature in a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment. Through focused themes, rich discussions, and structured guidance, learners will expand their understanding and appreciation of classic novels.

The course includes two thematic units, each with two novels. Learners spend four weeks on each novel. This eight-week unit structure provides a thorough study of themes, symbols, and literary techniques. 

While discussions take center stage, direct instruction helps learners engage with more complex material. Alongside discussions, learners will participate in collaborative activities and analytical writing exercises, strengthening their ability to communicate insights effectively.

Warm-Up Discussion (~10 minutes): Begin with initial thoughts on the reading.
Literary Analysis Writing (~10 minutes): Complete prompts or creative activities for deeper insight.
Analytic Discussion (~25-30 minutes): Participate in group discussions to explore themes and perspectives.
Sign-Off (~3 minutes): Wrap up with reflections or predictions.

🌟 Materials & Optional Graded Essay/Project 🌟

Weekly materials sharpen critical thinking, and each unit offers an optional graded essay or project for personalized feedback and letter grades. All assignments are managed via Google Drive.

Given the nature of these novels, sensitive themes may arise. I maintain a respectful, judgment-free space for open discussion, and I encourage parents to review each book for suitability.

New learners are invited (but not required) to share their pronouns, ensuring an inclusive and welcoming classroom. With certifications in ELA, special education, and TESOL, I provide support for diverse and neurodiverse learners.

Meg Connolly holds bachelor’s degrees in literature and philosophy and master’s degrees in teaching ELA (grades 7-12) and in teaching students with disabilities.
