As a certified teacher, we sometimes have to discuss tough and dark issues .  This topic will be discussed with the respect and dignity.  I encourage each parent to research each book to make sure it is a fit for your child and family.  All sensitive topics will be discussed with respect.   This rule is not negotiable.  Respectful discussion is mandatory.
Your child will need:
A copy of each book,
Access to download, print and upload,
A spiral notebook would be helpful to organize all notes and writing.

To Kill a Mockingbird

This book will require the discussion of racism in our country in the setting of 1936.  As a certified teacher, we sometimes have to discuss tough and dark issues .  This topic will be discussed with the respect and dignity.

1984
George Orwell's thought-provoking novel 1984 covers the themes of dehumanization, isolation, repression, loneliness, social class disparity, and abuse of power. These topics will be discussed in a respectful manner.

Lord of the Flies
"Lord of the Flies is a 1954 novel by Nobel Prize-winning British author William Golding.  The book focuses on a group of British boys stranded on an uninhabited island and their disastrous attempt to govern themselves. Themes include the tension between groupthink and individuality, between rational and emotional reactions, and between morality and immorality." -Wikipedia
This book will discuss savage and primitive behaviors, rational and emotional reactions, and mortality and immortality.
