Students will dive into the roles of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals, uncovering the skills and education needed to succeed in these exciting fields. Whether learners dream of going to medical school or launching their careers right after high school, we’ve got it covered! Topics include pathways to becoming a doctor or nurse, short-term certifications and fast-track healthcare jobs, as well as medical specialties and career planning tips. The lessons are taught through engaging lectures with slides and visuals, and activities and quizzes to spark curiosity and solidify knowledge.

Unit 2: Exciting Careers in Medicine – Explore Specialties That Save Lives

Get ready to step into the action-packed world of emergency medicine, surgery, and forensics! This unit dives into medical specialties that are fast-paced, hands-on, and filled with teamwork and problem-solving. From unraveling mysteries with forensic science to exploring high-tech tools in the operating room, learners will discover what it takes to thrive in these roles. Topics include forensic medicine, such as crime scene investigations and toxicology, emergency medicine with life-saving procedures and teamwork, and surgical technology featuring tools, techniques, and OR dynamics. Lessons feature real-world case studies and interviews with current healthcare professionals, as well as engaging slides, video clips, and activities. 

Unit 3: Learning the Basics – Build a Strong Healthcare Foundation

In this unit, learners will master essential healthcare concepts to boost confidence and understanding. From reading vital signs to infection prevention and injury management, students will gain practical skills while learning the science behind keeping bodies strong and healthy. Topics include vital signs like measuring temperature, pulse, and blood pressure, infection control by breaking the chain of infection through fun activities, including a virtual escape room, and injury care using ice and heat therapy to promote healing. Lessons include interactive games and virtual escape rooms, quizzes, and scenario-based learning.

Class Format & Interaction: This is a self-paced asynchronous course that allows learners to complete lessons and activities at their own speed. The instructor is available for questions or further discussion via email. Lessons include slides, video clips, and quizzes to reinforce key concepts. Virtual activities and case studies provide interactive opportunities to apply learning.
