Thrilled you're here—this class is a blast! In this interactive, ongoing class, learners will beam with pride as they identify Picassos, spot Matisse cutouts, and recognize Van Gogh's impasto brushstrokes like art history pros! Each week, we'll spotlight a different artist. We'll dive into their journey—from their artistic beginnings and global movements to fascinating facts (like how Matisse developed his cutout style while bedridden, and Van Gogh painted self-portraits because he couldn’t afford models!). Then, students will get hands-on, creating their own art inspired by the featured artist—whether it's a Pollock-style paint splatter, a Seurat dot extravaganza, or a Picasso cubist self-portrait. My teaching style is warm, encouraging, and lively, aiming to nurture kids' natural love of learning and creating. This class fits any homeschool curriculum and is perfect for anyone who loves learning about artists, creating art, or both! Whether you're a quiet learner or an enthusiastic participant, this class is for you. Artists and Projects are as follows: Wednesday, March 20th: Romero Britto / Colorful Britto Cat Wednesday, March 27th: Wassily Kandinsky / Mini-Canvas Abstract Wednesday, April 3rd: Robert Delaunay / Delaunay Abstract Circles Wednesday, April 10th: Wayne Thiebaud / Ice Cream Cones Wednesday, April 17th: Mary Cassatt / Mother and Child Drawing Wednesday, April 24th: Henri Rousseau / Tiger Drawing Wednesday, May 1st: Roy Lichtenstein / Dotted Pop Art Wednesday, May 8th: Rene Magritte / Sponge Painted Bird Art Wednesday, May 15th: Katsushika Hokusai / The Great Wave off Kanagawa Wednesday, May 22nd: Grandma Moses / Inspired Landscape Drawing/Painting Wednesday, May 29th: Yayoi Kusama / Polka Dot Project Wednesday, June 5th: Edvard Munch / Personalized Version of the Scream Wednesday, June 12th: Mark Rothko / Color-block Painting Wednesday, June 19th: Edouard Manet / Still Life Flowers in Vase Wednesday, June 26th: No Class Wednesday, July 3rd: Bronwyn Bancroft / Australian Dot Painting

At minimum, this class covers the subjects of art, history, art history, and art appreciation. Students will learn to identify artists by their work (even young kids will excitedly recognize Seurat's pointillism, Matisse's cutouts, and Van Gogh's impasto brushstrokes) and remember fun, key facts about their lives. They'll also learn to apply these famous styles to their own artwork, both in and out of class.

Hello! I'm Nicole, and I'm thrilled to be your child's guide to the beautiful world of discovering new things. My teaching style is warm, lively, and nurturing, creating a safe and engaging environment where every student can thrive. Over the years, I've been honored to develop deep relationships with my students. Some have gone from hating art to winning art awards and aspiring to become artists. I'm proud that many neurodivergent students who originally disliked learning now eagerly look forward to my classes each week.
I bring a diverse background to my teaching. As a lawyer and current stay-at-home homeschool teacher and co-op educator for other homeschooled students, I have a unique perspective on education. I graduated from college in just 10 months at the age of 19 and became Michigan's Attorney General Office's "Rookie of the Year" attorney at 22. My own fast-paced educational journey fueled my passion for helping students gain confidence in learning, understanding our world, and discovering their own unique abilities and callings within it.
In my classes, I strive to make learning an exciting adventure. I use interactive presentations and creative art projects to bring subjects to life, ensuring that every student feels valued and inspired. I'm passionate about helping students come alive with confidence in their learning journey, and I can't wait to embark on this educational and artistic adventure with your family!
