週1時間. Class exercises will be reitereated at the end of each class and students are encouraged to spend adult-supervised time working on their exercises outside of the live Zoom.

At the final class, students who wish will have an opportunity to perform a skill of their choice on the "spotlight" Zoom Window. A progress report with your child's achievement level on the beginner gymnastics skills taught is available upon request.

Gymnastics is a sport that requires strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, slow-sustained and quick-twitch muscle action, and so much more. A foundation in gymnastics is a great base for your child's fitness, playground skills, and future in any sport.   

This camp is for gymnastics beginners who would like to learn the fundamentals. Each student will learn progressively harder gymnastics at their own pace and be encouraged to support their classmates. Class will be a mix of live instruction and slides/ video clips that include:
  
1. Live interactive warm-up, stretch, and "circle time"
2. Rolls (i.e. log roll, egg roll, forward roll, etc.)
3. Jumps and landings
4. Progressions toward handstands and cartwheels
5. Body Shaping (strength and stretching exercises to promote proper gymnastics technique)

Students who progress quickly will be given extra challenges. Small group instruction means that each student will get personal attention and corrections. My coaching style is theatrical, highly enthusiastic, and focused on verbal positivity ("Push hard and straighten your arms!" rather than "Stop bending your arms").  

This class is geared toward students with little to no gymnastics experience. Students should dress in athletic clothing, have a wide open space, soft surface for landing, and a few other pieces of equipment. Gymnastics mats are optional, but not needed. Equipment can be found in the supply list below.

Beginner Gymnastics Camp Day 1
 Welcome to gymnastics! 
Circle time. 
Dynamic warm-up. 
Body positions: tuck, straddle, and pike, V sit. 
Tumbling progressions: log roll, rock and roll, donkey kick, lunge, T-shape, monkey jump. 
Line work: Walk on a straight line, pivot turn, chasse, straight jump, stick, and finish. 
Cool down stretch.

Beginner Gymnastics Camp Day 2
 Circle time.
Dance warm-up. 
Review Day 1 skills and terminology. 
Body positions: squat and tipi, table, 90 degree handstand.
Tumbling progressions: teeter totter, egg roll.
Line work: Walk backward, tuck jump stick, arabesque, coupe, passe, skip, tuck jump.
Cool down stretch.

 Circle time.
Yoga warm-up. 
Review Day 2 skills and terminology. 
Body positions: bridge, candlestick
Tumbling progressions: teeter-hop-totter, forward roll from high to low.
Line work: Grapevine walk, straddle jump stick.
Cool down stretch.

Tumbling progressions: Cartwheel practice.
Line work: Straddle rock and roll to press, high kicks
Spotlight: Students who wish to perform their favorite skills for the group have a chance to perform on the spotlight camera!

All types of learners are welcome in my classes. Students watch Angela demonstrate live and also see short video clips of gymnasts doing the skills and drills they are learning, then receive feedback as they practice.

As with any sport or physical activity, gymnastics carries a risk of injury. Minimize this risk with a clear open space, appropriate clothing and equipment, and adult supervision.

Roll of masking tape (for hand and foot markers, line on floor for balance)

Panel mat or other gymnastics block
Wedge mat
Padded wall
Practice balance beam
