During this one-on-one class, early readers will engage in activities related to the use of reading strategies, sight word automaticity, fluency practice, reading comprehension, and connecting reading and writing skills through lessons and activities geared towards the learner's reading level. This class will meet twice a week for as weeks as a family would like. It is an ongoing class so a child can join or stop classes at any time. Since this is a one-on-one class, please request some days/time that work well for your family and I will do my best to accommodate. I am in the Central Time Zone and have the most availability in the mornings from 7-9AM or evenings from 7:30-9:30 PM. Upon registration, parents and I will have a conversation via messages through Outschool to discuss your child's reading level and any thoughts that you may have on specific skills you would like for us to focus on. Some key literacy skills for learners in this age groups include: phonemic awareness skills, word work with sight words and word families, applying reading strategies, fluency, and reading comprehension as we read our book together. As I said, we will discuss any areas families would like to see more or less focus on during our initial conversations. I value getting to know each child as a reader. I always work to differentiate instruction and encourage young readers. I find that readers are more willing and braver about trying new things and interacting as they get to know their teacher through a series of lessons. By meeting weekly, we can work to build on skills throughout our time together. Once we have had a chance to discuss your wishes for your child's individualized class, I will send parents an outline of our weekly plan as well as resources to help learners while reading and writing outside of class time. Since this is a one-on-one class, anytime a learner joins class, it will be "week 1". Week 1: Get to know each other as people and as readers as we practice skills for early literacy. Week 2: Talk about a favorite book we each have and practice skills for early literacy. Week 3: Talk about a book we really want to read someday and practice skills for early literacy. Week 4: Talk about something that frustrates us as readers at times and practice skills for early literacy.

Hello Families,
My name is Danielle Day. I have a passion for inspiring young learners! I have a degree in Elementary Education. I have taught in both homeschool and public elementary school settings over the the last 18 years. I have also taught ESL online. Aside from teaching, I have coached basketball and a Building Brick League Team. I think learning should be authentic, engaging, and fun! My husband and I have 3 sons. As a family, we enjoy playing games, reading, riding our bikes, building with building bricks, and exploring nature.
- If you do not see dates listed for a class, that does not mean that I'm no long teaching the class or that it isn't awesome. It just means that right now, I have more class ideas than available hours in the day. I try to balance opening a variety of classes and leaving myself some time to be able to accommodate requested classes. Please never hesitate to send me a message requesting that I open more sessions of a class!
I hope to meet your learner(s) in class soon!
Have a great day,
Mrs. Day
