In this class, one-time for 60 minutes, learners will explore the seven principles of Kwanzaa and how it is celebrated. This class will teach learners and their families how to participate in the principles of Kwanzaa, how to create a Kwanzaa table, and how the symbols and clothing relates to the celebration. Parents can choose to celebrate from December 21 (2022) to January 1 (2022) and explore the week long celebration at home. Kwanzaa was created in 1966 for African Americans to honor their culture and practice the ritual to welcome the first harvests of the season into the home. The celebration honors African traditions that are practiced in African culture. This class is a way to start a family tradition and celebrate African heritage. Kwanzaa helps unite African culture throughout the New Year and learns will celebrate seven days of Kwanzaa in just 60 minutes. Yes, the class provides compacted information that typically takes 7 days, but learners will feel the harvest of the season and the reason to celebrate this year. The class is designed for learners to engage in the presentation by learning the history, tradition, principles, and symbols of Kwanzaa. The harvest represents change for family, friends and the community to come together and create experiences from the past year before starting a New Year. I will present an informational slide show that provides facts, videos, pictures, engagement, entertainment, and a new way to celebrate culture. Learners are presented with virtual expectations and encouraged to ask and answer questions for understanding of prior knowledge and to show comprehension of Kwanzaa. I will provide a course guide for learners to print and have available during class. Learners can express themselves to promote communication skills during the class.
