Guten Tag! In this class, you’ll learn three folk songs in German about the springtime.

The German musical tradition is especially full of songs that celebrate the coming of spring. When the temperatures warm up, the flowers bloom, and the birds start singing, enthusiasm bursts into song!

THE FOLKSONG TRADITION
Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and other German-speaking countries have a strong tradition of singing folk songs. Many of these songs come from a long time ago, from the 1800s. Folk songs are “songs of the people,” and they were often sung while people were out hiking, working, or sitting around together in the evening. Many of these songs are still well known today.

THE SELF-PACED FORMAT
This is a self-paced class, which means there are no live meetings on Zoom. Instead, you work your way through the pre-recorded, pre-written learning materials posted in the classroom (videos + reference sheet).

You can go through the class at whatever pace works best for you.
- If you finish early, great—you can move on to your next German class!
- If you need more time, no problem. Just let me know.

The class will probably take you around 45 minutes to complete.

LEARNING MATERIALS
Here’s what you’ll do in the class:

1 – You’ll watch an introduction video teaching you the words for the four seasons in German and leading you through a vocabulary-guessing game (5 minutes)

2 – You’ll watch 3 videos, each teaching you one German folk song (10 minutes each)

You’ll also get a Reference Sheet with the songs and the vocabulary.
