Welcome to Waldorfunn, where I teach children mathematics using a Waldorf-inspired philosophy.

In this class, we will focus on two main activities: creating geometric drawings in the first half and solving algebraic calculations in the second half. Each session will feature an impressive geometric drawing made with a compass tool, providing a fun experience that encourages creative and critical thinking.

After our drawing activity, we will delve into mathematical algebraic formulas to practice calculations and learn the fundamental rules of algebra, which is often referred to as the language of mathematics. We will start with the basics and gradually move on to more advanced concepts.

The method of inverse operations for solving algebraic equations is fundamental to understanding algebra. It is important to recognize that the child will not master this challenging concept in just one class; we will practice this skill gradually in each session. It's perfectly normal for the child to struggle with this material initially. What matters is that the joy of drawing inspires enthusiasm and curiosity, motivating the child to overcome the challenges of algebra.

The class syllabus is provided below. Since the content does not build on previous lessons, children can join at any time.

My teaching style is restful, loving, and engaging. I believe that igniting a child's imagination and interest is essential for success in mathematics and achieving numerical mastery.

As a Waldorf-inspired teacher, I nurture and engage each child through a curriculum and methodology that integrate academics with the arts. My goal is to connect with the child's head, heart, and hands—or thinking, feeling, and willingness—by incorporating the calming benefits of creative art and captivating arithmetic concepts. An impressive and artistic drawing sparks a child's curiosity and enthusiasm. Geometry drawings help develop new neural pathways in the child's brain, enhancing their capacity for new learning. These activities enable children to focus, relax, and grasp mathematical concepts by recognizing number patterns and properties.

All of this takes place in a simple, fulfilling, and joyful classroom environment.
At Waldorfunn, we begin each class with a deep breath and a welcoming mathematical verse to create a positive learning environment. Each class concludes with a personal share-and-tell where students showcase their drawings, followed by a heartfelt farewell.
I am genuinely excited to meet you and your child. I assure you that I provide high-quality classes, pouring my heart into each lesson and nurturing a loving relationship with every student. My passion for math and teaching shines through, and the children truly feel it!

Class Syllabus

Week of March 17

Geometry drawings
Using our math compass, we will relax and create amazing mandala-like circles to become comfortable with the process.

Algebra fundamentals.
We are creating note cards for inversions of mathematical notations and the order of operations. These will serve as reference tools for solving equations. Inversing and balancing algebraic formulas allow us to tackle various problems.
We will also investigate the mystery of the disappearing multiplication notation within algebraic expressions. Additionally, we will explore what is happening with division notation. There's a lot to unpack!
---

Week of March 24

Geometry drawing
We will learn to draw a perfect square based on a circle using our compass, creating an exquisite experience.

Algebra fundamentals
We will develop a deep understanding of square numbers and the concept of a number's root through algebra formulas involving square numbers.
----

Week of March 31

Geometry drawing
We will be creating a Fibonacci spiral using golden rectangles.

Algebra fundamentals
What about the fascinating world of golden rectangles, the magic of Fibonacci numbers, and the intriguing ratios they create?
What is a ratio, exactly? This concept can be abstract and challenging to grasp. Can you see the relationships between different numbers?
To help clarify the idea of a ratio, we created a Fibonacci spiral within rectangles.
-----

Week April 7

Geometry drawing
With our math compass, we will draw triangles on a circular base. We will experiment with the ecstatic fractalization and superpositions of triangles.

Algebra fundamentals
We will explore algebraic formulas by isolating variables using our inverse card and solving various formulas. We will learn why these formulas apply to all types of triangles and solve problems related to triangle theorems.
----

Week of April 14

Geometry drawing
We will explore the Pythagorean theorem related to right triangles and its connection to the notions of squares. Additionally, we will create a remarkable mathematical illustration to depict this concept.

Algebra fundamentals
Solving the pytagorean theorem
----

Week of April 21

Off

----

Week of April 28

Geometry drawing
We will create another unique concentric geometric formation. These designs are truly fascinating!

Algebra fundamentals
We will learn the formula for the area of a circle and apply the order of operations to solve the equation.
----

Week of May 5

Geometry drawing
We will enjoy drawing overlapping circles to create ellipses and designing mandala-like geometric patterns.

Algebra fundamentals
Exploring the area of ellipses and the differences from the circle's area formula. A closer look at the significance of the order of operations in algebra.
----

Week of May 12

Geometry drawing
Our math compass drawing skills now allow us to create incredible formations in base 12 and even 24, slicing the circle.

Algebra fundamentals
Now that we are comfortable with our algebraic circle formulas, let's take a closer look at Pi. What exactly is Pi? How was it discoverd? ...by slicing the circle! Regardless of the size of the circle, Pi remains unchanged. Is it because it represents a ratio? This is significant because it helps solve many problems in the world.
----

Week of May 19

Geometry drawing
Can we create our own geometry drawing?

Algebra fundamentals
We will remember everything we learned in algebra fundamentals and recognize how confident we are now. Let's do a comprehensive review of what we have learned!

I am deeply invested in anthroposophy, and I acquired the foundational knowledge and the practical art skills of Waldorf Education.

Mathematics is my passion, and I specialize in Classical Greek geometry and arithmetic.
I crafted my math classes to trigger the genius in each student.

I speak four languages fluently.
I also teach reading and spelling classes at the elementary level because I believe in the power of classical literature. I crafted these classes for children to fall in love with writing with perfect spelling.

Like in Math, if a class is meaningful and emotionally captivating, "Difficult" academics become satisfying!
I strive to create those "AHH" moments in children...they are the delights of academic work!

The purpose of my educational classes is to inspire students.
I know how important this is for children and their future academic life.

I have a Canadian Advanced Degree in the Natural Science of Silviculture and Forest Management.
I have taught Waldorf Waldorf-inspired curriculum for my four delightful daughters for over five years.
