This class uses a slide show to present information, maps, and pictures to explain how the United States emerged from the destruction of much of its Pacific Naval Fleet at Pearl Harbor to destroy much of the Japanese Attack Fleet almost exactly 6 months later. Under new leadership, the Pacific Naval Command improved intelligence to support boldness that produced victories while outnumbered. Two short YouTube videos will be used to show the results of Pearl Harbor and the overall picture of the Battle of Midway.

Key information to be covered includes: (1) What the Japanese planned to achieve versus what they actually accomplished with the attack on Pearl Harbor; (2) The difficulties and the accomplishments of American codebreakers after Pearl Harbor; (3)  Why the Coral Sea and Midway became the locations of key battles; (4) How the course of the war changed within 10 minutes during a 3-hour battle; and (5) The consequences of the Japanese defeat.
