The main focus will be on fundamentals, while addressing the various playing abilities of students in the class. This class is student centered with the teacher leading a rehearsal style band class. You will have opportunities to un-mute your microphone so others can hear you play, adding collaborative elements to this band class. 

Woodwind Masterclass – Exploring Tone, Balance, and Blend

Objectives:
* Develop ensemble skills, including balance, intonation, and communication.
* Explore the unique timbres of flute, clarinet, and saxophone in a small ensemble setting.
* Strengthen musical interpretation and phrasing through collaborative rehearsal.

Lesson Structure:
1. Warm-Up 
    * Begin with long tones and tuning exercises to unify intonation.
    * Play simple patterns in unison and harmony, focusing on blend and dynamic control.
2. Articulation & Style Coordination
    * Practice articulation exercises to ensure consistency between instruments.
    * Experiment with different articulation styles to match phrasing.
3. Ensemble Repertoire Rehearsal 
    * Work on selected pieces of music. 
    * Discuss musical interpretation, including dynamics and expression.
    * Assign roles (melody, harmony, etc.) and experiment with balance.
4. Ensemble Communication & Expression
    * Discuss eye contact and non-verbal cues for entrances and transitions.
    * Encourage listening across the group to adjust dynamics and tone color.
5. Performance & Reflection
    * Run through the piece with minimal stopping.
    * Discuss areas for improvement and strategies for the next rehearsal.

By the end of the lesson, students will have improved their ensemble awareness, learned how to balance their sound within a group, and gained experience in musical collaboration.
