During this 4 week course, students will be introduced to multiple Common Core and traditional strategies in fraction multiplication and division. The goal of the course is to provide both a deep conceptual understanding of fractions, what they represent, their connection to decimals, and how they are use in the real world. Students will additionally practice using the traditional algorithm (step by step procedure) to solving computation problems. The class will strive, however, to provide an understanding of fractions far beyond just calculating and memorizing steps and procedures. Students will practice using vocabulary, properties, equations, story problems and puzzles to practice these concepts. The structure for each week in the course is as follows: -Each week, the teacher will provide a detailed instruction video and 4 related practice worksheets introducing new concepts. These videos discuss various methods on how to solve problems. I will demonstrate and provide all the teaching information in the video that I normally would in a live class. -The first two weeks will deal with fraction multiplication and the final two weeks fraction division. -Students will view the video instruction, complete the assigned mini task worksheet, and submit them to the teacher for review before the end of the week. The teacher will review the student's practice and provide feedback on the accuracy of their work and will redirect any mistakes or confusion that takes place. -Students are allowed to post any questions they might have with the assignments in the classroom feed for teacher or classmate response and feedback at any time. -After completing the practice tasks, students will select a related project to create based on a menu of choices provided by the teacher. This student choice project will provide the student an opportunity to demonstrate his or her learning in a creative way and will serve as an assessment for that week. This project will also be submitted by the end of the week. It will be posted and shared with other members of the class to view. Students will also submit a video showing their project and explaining what they learned. -Students will view and comment on their peer's project and creative work involving fractions. Collaboration and comments on others work will be required. Students should gain further understanding of fractions by watching their peers explain the concept in a student-friendly way. They can share their challenges and successes together, as well as highlight their most common mistakes or misconceptions. This structure will continue for all 4 weeks of the course. Viewing and completing the 4 mini-lessons each week will take no more than 30 minutes per lesson or approximately two hours per week. The final project is expected to take between 30-60 minutes. Students should, therefore, expect to invest around 2.5-3 hours per week on this course.

受講に必要なもの
Students will need pencils to complete their weekly mini tasks. For menu projects, students will choose from a variety of projects which may require different materials such as markers or colored pencils. These projects are meant to use things typically already found in the home. There should not be a need to purchase materials for a project. Alternatives for materials are often available and only require a quick email to the teacher for suggestions.
