**This class does not meet live. It is a flexible (asynchronous) schedule class where you watch the videos and complete the activities and assignments during the week, when it is convenient for you, by the listed due date.** Why learn cursive writing? Studies have shown that cursive writing stimulates the brain in ways that typing does not, and helps develop fine motor skills. Students who learn cursive writing tend to write more words, write faster, and express more ideas when writing by hand than by keyboard. In this class we focus on the foundational skills of cursive writing, while having fun and engaging with others. Engagement and interaction are key components in this fun and informative class, the more you put in, the more you'll get out of it. The class is structured as follows: Week 1- Lower Case Letters Sunday- A video will be posted where learners will be introduced to the main rules of writing in cursive writing. The teacher will introduce each lower case letter. Learners are encouraged to practice along with the video (pause if needed) and should share their letters in the classroom, by Saturday of that same week. Monday and Tuesday - The teacher is available to respond to questions posted in the classroom or though messages. Wednesday - An activity, or discussion question will be posted for the learner to complete or reply to, by the Saturday of that week. Learners will have an opportunity to practice each of the letters and combine letters to make short words. Thursday and Friday - The teacher is available to respond to questions posted in the classroom or though messages. Learners are encouraged to post and respond to other learners within the classroom. Saturday - The teacher is available to offer feedback once work is submitted to the classroom. Week 2- Upper Case Letters Sunday - A video will be posted where the teacher introduces each upper case letter with step by step instruction. Learners are encouraged to follow along with the video (pause as needed) as they will have the opportunity to practice each of the letters. Learners should share their work in the classroom by the Saturday of that same week. Monday and Tuesday - The teacher is available to respond to questions posted in the classroom or though messages. Wednesday - An activity, or discussion question, will be posted for the learner to complete or reply to, by the Saturday of that week. Learners will have an opportunity to practice both upper and lower case cursive letters to write words. Thursday and Friday - The teacher is available to respond to questions posted in the classroom or though messages. Learners are encouraged to post and respond to other learners within the classroom. Saturday - The teacher is available to offer feedback once work is submitted to the classroom. Week 3- Difficult Letter Blends Sunday - Some of the cursive letters are more difficult to blend within a word, than others. A video will be posted where we practice some of the more common difficult blends with step by step instructions. Learners are encouraged to follow along with the video (pause as needed) as they will have the opportunity to practice each of the letters. Learners should share their work in the classroom by the Saturday of that same week. Monday and Tuesday - The teacher is available to respond to questions posted in the classroom or though messages. Wednesday - An activity, or topic for discussion will be posted for the learner to complete by the Saturday of that week. Learners will have an opportunity to practice words that contain the difficult blends. Thursday and Friday - The teacher is available to respond to questions posted in the classroom or though messages. Learners are encouraged to post and respond to other learners within the classroom. Saturday - The teacher is available to offer feedback once work is submitted to the classroom. Week 4- Our unique cursive lettering Sunday - This week, learners will continue to establish their unique cursive writing skills by writing short sentences. A video will be posted showing optional ways to make some cursive letters. Oftentimes, learners find alternative cursive letter creation/strokes easier.
