Start at any time! Second Graders Welcomed!

This class covers a full-year curriculum of First Grade grammar and writing. 

Topics covered will include complete sentences, parts of speech, capitalization, punctuation, and beginning paragraph writing.

Class begins with a discussion and examples of the writing skill being taught. Guided lessons take your learner through the process of creating solid sentences and relating them to one another in a paragraph.

Week of October 28th: Subjects and predicates (Complete Sentences)
Week of November 4th: Pronouns
Week of November 11th: Compound subjects (and conjunctions)
Week of November 18th: Compound predicates (and conjunctions)
Week of November 25th: Fall break No class!
Week of December 2nd: Adjectives
Week of December 9th: More adjectives
Week of December 16th: Adverbs

Week of January 13th: Adding adjectives and adverbs for more detail
Week of January 20th: Present and past tense verbs
Week of January 27th: Complete Sentences
Week of February 3rd: Write a story in past tense. Illustrations welcomed!
Week of February 10th: Categorizing words. (Synonyms or words used for similar reasons)
Week of February 17th: Context clues.
Week of February 24th: Prefixes: un-, re-, and -pre
Week of March 3rd: Write about an opinion (what is the best dessert) and support it with at least one reason. Illustrations welcomed! 
Week of March 10th: Spring Break!
Week of March 17th: Proper Nouns
Week of March 24th: Write a letter with proper punctuation and capitalization.
Week of March 31st: Adjectives
Week of April 7th: More Adjectives
Week of April 14th: Adverbs
Week of April 21st: More Adverbs
Week of April 28th: Informational writing. (Research on butterflies included).
Week of May 5th: Irregular plurals
Week of May 12th: Possessive Nouns
Week of May 19th: Write a story. Illustrations welcomed!
