このクラスで学べること
In this one-time class, students will learn how to make responsible spending and saving decisions and how to create a simple budget. In addition to planning their spending and savings, they will be introduced to charitable giving and creating a plan to reach short-term and long-term savings goals. They will also learn what scarcity is, the choices that scarcity can present and the opportunity cost of those decisions (this will be an important concept in future courses, when they learn about supply, demand, and increased costs). Through illustrations, discussions, and fun interactive scenarios the students will explore financial decision-making and why it is important to create a plan for their money before they start to spend it. In addition to these concepts, the students will also review basic counting, adding and subtraction as we spend money in a virtual store and create a budget. This course will set an important foundation for future finance lessons. Here is a breakdown of what to expect in this class: Greeting Needs vs wants when prioritizing a shopping list Shopping scenario as a group Gifts vs Earned Income Spending vs Savings Practice these new concepts by playing an interactive game Creating a budget and savings goals Savings scenarios What is scarcity and how does it effect my decision-making Interactive budgeting scenarios as a group Closing/goodbye I can’t wait to see your child in my class!

Welcome! I'm Stephanie Roestel.
I have my Bachelor's degree in Finance from Eastern Washington University. I started a career in retail banking but chose to leave the profession to stay home with my growing family. Several of my children have special learning needs and I decided to homeschool, during their most challenging years, to meet these needs. Learning how to educate children in the way that they learn best has been a passion of mine for the past 12 years.
On Outschool, I offer classes in Math and Finance, which are the subjects I have my formal education in. But I also offer classes in reading and literature, which are subjects I found a passion for while homeschooling. Teaching my little ones to read and then leading them in discussions about literature when they got older, has been an incredible experience.
In addition to teaching my own children, I spent 6 years as a volunteer unit leader for a scouting organization. During that time, I rotated between the different age groups within our troop. I designed projects for the girls to complete as they worked to earn badges in a variety of subject areas. Some of these projects were academic (creative writing, robotics, kitchen science) and some were designed to teach life skills (camping, fire building, hiking, cooking). It was very rewarding to collaborate with my scouts as we all learned these skills together.
I have been teaching English as a foreign language online for the past 2 years. This experience has allowed me to adjust the way I teach depending on the level and age of my learners. I have taught advanced 5-year-olds and lower-level adults and each has required a unique approach.
I love to teach in an engaging and collaborative way, where we are all contributing to the learning experience. I believe this creates a fun and interactive environment where the students can really be excited and involved.
I have 5 children and our collective interests are vast. We love video games, board games, roller skating, movies, music, live theatre, concerts, reading, and enjoying the beautiful outdoors of Colorado.
I can't wait to share my love of learning, with your child, in my Outschool classroom.
