Homework
週あたり 1-2 時間. Homework is described in the class description. They are making a film. That entails working on things outside of class. For example. I will show them how to write a script. On their own time, they will write the script for their film.

このクラスで学べること

As previously discussed, I will be teaching students how to create a film from concept to completion. They will come up with an idea, write a script, shoot the film, edit the film, and upload the film to Youtube.

I teach at the college level. I structure my class exactly how I structure my college class. We start with me showing and providing information...then I give "assignments." So, they will write a script. They will shoot their film. Then, they will edit their film.

Class 1 - Pre-Production I
A. Brainstorming film ideas (10 -15 minutes) - Group discussion on each student's ideas.
B. Synopsis & Outline (10 - 15 minutes) - Putting the ideas down on paper...Organizing to ensure a beginning, middle, and end for the story.
C. Writing a script (20-30 minutes) - Instructor showing how to write a script. Ideally, we would be using Celtx (Celtx.com...free version); however, it can be done on Word, as well.

* It would not be homework per se, but the students would need to complete their script if they wanted to make a film during the time we have to do it in this class. Looking for about a five-page script...give or take a page or two.

Class 2 - Pre-Production II
A. Script Review (20 - 30 minutes) - The class and instructor will review each student's script and give feedback.
B. Shot List & Storyboarding (10 - 15 minutes) - The Instructor will show how to storyboard a script...create a shot list.

* It would not be homework per se, but the students would need to complete these things if they wanted to make a film during the time we have to do it in this class.

Class 3 - Pre-Production/Production
A. Script, Shot List, and Storyboard Review (20-30 minutes) - One final review by the class and instructor...with feedback.
B. Discussion with Slides About Production (Camera - Lights - Microphones - Types of Shots - Etc.) - (20-30 minutes) - This is a pretty thorough presentation regarding everything someone needs to know about production.
C. Assign Five Shots Assignment.

* It would not be an assignment per se, but this exercise helps the student understand the different types of shots and give them some directing experience prior to them shooting their own film. Basically, it's practice.

Class 4 - Production
A. Review Five Shots as a Class (15 - 20 minutes) - The class reviews each student's Five Shots assignment. Feedback given.
B. Cast/Crew/Equipment/Location/Scheduling -- Treatment -- Call Sheet (15-30 minutes) - The instructor will discuss these things and show how each document should be filled out (if needed). Students will start shooting their projects after this class.

* It would not be an assignment per se, but the idea was for them to make a film. So, if they want to produce a film, shooting the footage they need is necessary.

Class 5 - Post-Production I
A. Uploading and reviewing footage (10-15 minutes) - We will just discuss how they should do that and why.
B. Creating Project Files and Organizing their footage (15-20 minutes) - Creating project files and organizing their footage is crucial. If you don't do this, it is very hard to find the footage you need when editing.
C. Finding/Creating Assets (10 - 15 minutes) - This is mostly showing where to find free music to use for their films.

Class 6 - Post-Production II
A. Editing The Footage (30 - 55 Minutes) - I will show how to upload clips onto an editing software's timeline...how to cut. How to add music, etc.
B. Assign the Editing of the Project (5 minutes) - We will discuss the editing of their project...Guidelines. Should be done for the class to review in the last class.

Class 7 - Project Review
A. We will watch all student's films together and give feedback.

Class 8 - Project Review
A. If we don't finish watching everyone's films in class 7, we will watch this class.
B. How to upload to YouTube or Vimeo.
C. How to submit to a film festival.

My teaching style is I do, we do, you do. Lots of hands-on experience...but I instruct before I have them do anything.

I wouldn't call classes "lectures" per se...I will have slides and provide information, but it will be very interactive. I have some films I have done I can show them for reference.

They will need to have some way to edit their films, so make sure before signing on the they at least have internet so I can direct them to free editing software.
学習到達目標
Students will learn the basics of creating their own film from concept to completion.

I would like to show some of the short films my team and I did for the 48 Hour Film Festival as a reference. We try to keep our films clean, but just know that there might be some occasional bad language and violent acts (fight scenes). I assure you, nothing I wouldn't allow my own 12 year old to see.
受講の前提条件
It's really more about needed equipment and software. The student will absolutely need a decent computer (for scriptwriting & editing). They'll need internet access and some sort of camera (even if it is just a phone or iPad)
受講に必要なもの
Again, I don't want anyone going out and buying a brand new camera for this class. It is unnecessary. But, you have to have something. I'm okay with just using a cell phone or iPad for what we are doing. it is a starter class. Same with editing...there are free ways to edit online for now. If they get into it, or you already have editing software, that's fine. BUT...you will probably need storage. You can get Cloud storage, or I think an external hard drive to store project files is better.
