In this one-time, 1:1 class, we write a quick-write short story approximately one page long. We begin by choosing a genre and developing a plan that includes a plot, characters, settings, problem & solution, and conclusion.

Depending on the learner's needs, typing skills, and writing abilities, we free-write a story together, introducing the characters and problem early in the story, adding some plot twists, and ending with a firm conclusion. We also focus on transitions, paragraphing, adding voice and word choice, and revising and editing skills if time allows. We accomplish all this in a short amount of time with free writing and lively discussion. The student will exit with a completed story or a story they can continue writing independently or during additionally purchased classes.

Writing stories from a blank page can be a struggle for students of any age. I have built a toolbox of strategies to assist students in brainstorming ideas, getting past writer's block, creating exciting ideas, and much more. I have also developed a knack for bringing enjoyment and an encouraging attitude to the blank page. When given a clean slate, please join me in discovering what adventures we can create.

I am a fun, exciting, engaging, patient, and understanding educator that enjoys teaching and learning. This attitude is evident in my classes! No boring teachers allowed!

I obtained a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2002 and an Educational Technology master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 2010. I spent over 20 years in the upper elementary classroom and specialized in teaching language arts for ten years. I also have ten years of private tutoring experience and have tutored online since 2020. I specialize and enjoy digging deep into and discussing a good book with a group of young learners and building upon the reading/writing connection. I work with students from ages 8-13 (upper elementary to middle school skill level).
