Learners who miss more than 3 meetings or do not participate in showing their work may not be eligible to receive the certificate.

This is a 16-Week Semester Series. Classes will meet ONCE every week through the course of the curriculum.
In this engaging course, we will delve into the lives and legacies of renowned fashion designers, unraveling the mysteries of their creative processes. We will also discover the profound impact these designers have had on the fashion industry and their remarkable contributions to art and culture. Through vibrant discussions and hands-on projects, students will embark on a fascinating journey of discovery, understanding how fashion transcends mere clothing to become an art form and a cultural statement.
Weeks 1-14 will provide students a unique opportunity to learn from the classic masters of famous fashion houses and draw inspirations to their own creative endeavors. Weeks 15-18, they will start to appreciate contemporary works from emerging new designers. The class will end with a collaborative fashion show where students take pride to present their own designs to share with their peers. Our goal is for students to have a deep appreciation for both classic and contemporary influences, which will guide them to find their personal styles with confidence.

1:1 Private class option: The curriculum below provides a structured framework. It can be adapted to suit the needs and interests of the students for individualized portfolio development.

Week 1-2: Coco Chanel - The Icon of Elegance
• Biography and contributions of Coco Chanel.
• Exploration of Chanel's iconic designs, including the little black dress and Chanel No. 5.
• Influence of Chanel's minimalist, elegant style.

Week 3-4: Yves Saint Laurent - Revolutionizing Fashion
• Biography and contributions of Yves Saint Laurent.
• Study of YSL's groundbreaking designs, including the tuxedo jacket and safari jacket.
• Impact of YSL's gender-fluid and ready-to-wear collections.

Week 5-6: Christian Dior - The New Look and Beyond
• Biography and contributions of Christian Dior.
• Examination of Dior's New Look and the hourglass silhouette.
• Dior's legacy in haute couture and branding.

Week 7-8: Gianni Versace - Bold and Glamorous
• Biography and contributions of Gianni Versace.
• Exploration of Versace's daring designs, bold prints, and the Medusa logo.
• Influence of Versace in the world of luxury and celebrity fashion.

Week 9-10: Alexander McQueen - Avant-Garde 
• Biography and contributions of Alexander McQueen.
• Study of McQueen's avant-garde and theatrical fashion shows.
• Impact of McQueen's innovative and unconventional designs.

Week 11-12: Elsa Schiaparelli - Surrealist Couturier
• Biography and contributions of Elsa Schiaparelli.
• Examination of Schiaparelli's surreal and artistic fashion creations.
• Schiaparelli's collaboration with Salvador Dalí and influence on art-inspired fashion.

Week 13: Simone Rocha - Contemporary Romantic 
• Study of Simone Rocha's style of her perspective of femininity and experimental fabrics.
• Use of storytelling through her fashion shows.
• Cultural influence of FW2023 fashion show.

Week 14: Rick Owens - Contemporary Dark & Edgy
• Exploration of Rick Owens’ simple aesthetic, unique cuts of fabrics, and edgy footwear.
• Impact on the subcultural fashion scene, particularly in the realm of goth and punk aesthetics. 
• Innovative footwear design trends of spring RTW2022.

Week 15: Paris Georgia - Contemporary Feminine Minimalist
• Study of their 90's minimalism style.
• Iconic slip dress collection focuses on luxurious fabrics and high-quality construction.
• Branding with celebrities such as Kendal Jenner, Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Dua Lipa.

Week 16: Olivier Rousteing - Contemporary Opulent Luxury
• Biography of Rousteing's impactful career.
• Examination of his bold and opulent feminine style.
• Exploration of his pivotal role in making Balmain an advocate for diversity and inclusivity.

Please read below for frequently-asked questions on our policies:

Mandatory Video Check-In
Video check-in is mandatory for safety purposes per Outschool policy. Students are required to have their cameras on to allow the teacher to check in and verify each learner. After check-in, students have the option of either turning off their camera or leaving it on, whatever is their preference.

Refunds & Missed Classes
All of our classes are backed by Outschool’s standard policy. To receive a full refund, parents may withdraw or stop their subscription within 24 hours of payment OR 24 hours before class starts, whichever occurs earlier. No refunds are issued if a learner misses a live meeting. Recordings are made available in each classroom and can be watched at their convenience. Students are always welcome to reach out with any questions and share their work in the classroom.

Class Recording Access
Learners must JOIN A LIVE CLASS ONCE in order to lift Outschool's safety protocol and unlock access to video recordings of class meetings. Learners who have not attended a live class but need access to the recordings must contact verification@outschool.com to apply for a lifetime verification badge.

Late/ Missed Class
All classes will begin on time as long as one learner is in the classroom. In the event that no students are in the classroom at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message in the classroom and exit after ten minutes of waiting per Outschool policy.

Minimum Enrollment & Class Cancellation
A minimum of two learners is required for every class to run. In the event that we have to cancel a class, parents will be notified within 24 hours of class. Learners will have the option of either transferring to a more populated section of the same class or receiving a full refund, whichever is preferred.

Technical Difficulties
In the event of class delay/ cancellations due to unforeseeable technical issues, all families will be notified and a make-up section will be posted, or a refund will be issued if a make-up class cannot be scheduled.

Teacher Angela is a versatile graphic artist  who holds a BFA in graphic design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her expertise extends to various art forms, including still life, landscape, and figure drawing. She is also skilled in fashion, 3D clay design, animation, and photography. Teacher Angela is known for fostering an environment that encourages her students to think beyond conventional boundaries, recognizing the profound impact of creativity on learning and development.

Teacher Palm is a professional fashion and costume designer familiar with the complete product creation life cycle from initial concept to constructed design. She holds a degree in Fashion Design from The Parsons School of Design in New York. In addition to over 10 years of teaching art and fashion, she is also experienced in staging collections in numerous international Fashion Shows for luxury clients including Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg, Ann Taylor and Kenneth Cole. She gained valuable industry experience in the capacity of Creative Consultant for designers, theaters and art schools. Palm is also proficient in a wide range of fine arts such as watercolor, oil, pencil, pastel, etc. and approaches her teachings with a calm mind, optimism and positive affirmation.
