In this class, students will "travel" through Gustav Klimt's paintings while listening to a fairy tale. As we go on the quest to find the golden gown (following the main character of the fairy tale), we will look at several paintings and notice what makes them special. We'll briefly talk about what artists do. We will discover some of the elements we might see in presented artworks, like colors, lines, shapes, ornaments, etc. In the second portion of the class, we will make a craft inspired...
Students will: • learn some facts about Klimt • learn (or review) what artists do • practice their observation skills • exercise their fine motor skills while working on an art project • use their imagination
Materials for Craft: 1. 2 pages of white paper 2. Cut out face of a man and / or a woman about 2x2 inches (could be a cut out from a newspaper or magazine) 3. Scraps of construction or any other colorful paper preferably in bright, shiny colors (even aluminum foil!) 4. Scraps of wrapping or any other paper with patterns on it (colorful cut-outs from magazines work great too!) 5. Sequins, confetti, glitter, or any other small sparkling and bright decorations (optional) 6 Pencil 7 Scissors 8. Glue 9. Markers
For the craft portion of the class, parental guidance is required for younger students (ages 4-5) for the use of scissors and other materials. Parental guidance is recommended for older students (ages 6-8).
