In this one-off self-paced writing class, learners will take a satirical deep dive into the story of the Three Little Pigs — but from a modern journalist’s point of view. Was the wolf’s death self-defense or something more sinister? Were the pigs innocent homeowners, or was there more to the story? Learners will write a fairy-tale-inspired newspaper article, using a modern lens to explore themes like justice, self-defense, and media bias — all while building strong grammar and writing skills. ✨ What’s Included: 🎥 4 pre-recorded video lessons (10–20 minutes each) to guide the process 📄 A model news article to support learners' writing 📝 5 short grammar worksheets to build key skills before writing 💬 Optional submission of writing with the opportunity for supportive, individualized feedback 📅 While the class is listed for one week, learners may submit writing anytime within a month 🧠 Learners Will Be Taught To: Plan and write a compelling news article based on a fractured fairy tale Use key grammatical features such as: -Direct and indirect speech -Parenthesis and relative clauses -Passive voice ⚠️ Content Advisory (Age-Appropriate for 13+): The retelling includes darkly humorous references to the boiling of the wolf, legal conspiracy theories, and questions about the pigs' right to defend their homes. This content is approached thoughtfully and creatively, but may not be suitable for younger learners. 💬 Feedback Options: Learners are welcome to submit their final news article to the teacher for encouraging feedback (one strength and one area to improve). Learners may also choose to submit without requesting feedback.

I'm Ms. Riot, a creative teacher (certified, qualified and experienced) from London, England. My teaching adventure began at university with the completion of my 4-year degree (Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Primary Education) back in 2007.
In the UK, we achieve our QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) through additional exams and proven experience which I also achieved in 2007. My dissertation allowed me to carry out research into how we can motivate young learners to want to read more. I completed one of my student teaching placements in Arizona, USA and I worked as the Literacy Lead for two summers at a not-for-profit camp in New York, USA.
As an elementary classroom teacher, I developed creative classrooms where students felt safe enough to fail. My passion for reading also allowed me to develop a new career as a high school librarian, teaching reading lessons across the school. I have also taught students English up to the age of 16 at a prestigious online school.
More recently, I have worked within the learning department in a large museum, teaching at a range of online schools and designing curriculum for education resource companies. I also deliver lectures to trainee teachers.
At the heart of my teaching philosophy lies a belief that learning should be an adventure, sprinkled with curiosity and laughter. We can be serious about learning without it always being too serious.
