This class is designed to help students practice their reading fluency and reading comprehension skills. This class will also focus on vocabulary and spelling. Students will have a better understanding of the texts that they've read. They will also be able to decode words and read with fluency.
                In this class, students will learn how to use context clues to define new vocabulary words and to help them gain a better understanding of the texts that they have read. Students will practice reading aloud for fluency and will also learn reading comprehension strategies. Syllable strategies will be introduced each week. Lastly, Students will also review grammar topics (i.e. verbs, apostrophes, verbs, etc.)
                 This class is interactive and will require students' participation. I will assist, as needed, with pronunciation and fluency.
The class will begin with a new vocabulary word related to the text each week. The students will then review a grammar topic and complete a worksheet page. After the word introduction and grammar review, a reading comprehension strategy skill will be discussed. The class will end with comprehension questions related to the text , as well as, a discussion. The passages will be read from the k5learning website and ixl website using share screen. Passages may be read from my canva worksheets. Students will take turns with the reading. If time allots, we will play a gimkit or blooket game based off a reading strategy (locating the main idea of a text) or a grammar topic.

Week 2 : September 8, 2024 (Locating the main idea)/ Synonyms
Week 3: Sept 15, 2024 (Locating the main idea)/ subject/ verb agreement
Week 4: September 22, 2024 ( Locating the main idea/ Comma and semi colon usage
Week 5: September 29, 2024 ( Finding the theme of the story), spelling , adjectives
Week 6: October 7, 2024 (The theme of the story)/ Quotation Marks
Week 7 : October 14, 2024 ( The theme of a short story)/ coordinating conjunctions
Week 8: October 21, 2024(Compare and contrast/ sequence of events)/ Verbs
Week 9: October 28, 2024 (Cause and effect/ Vocabulary words
Week 10 November 4, 2024 ( Problems and solutions/ author's purpose for writing)
Week 11 : November 11, 2024 (Cause and effect)/ Commas and conjunctions)
Week 12 : November 18, 2024 (main idea, readers' response/ context clues)
Week 13:  November 25, 2024 (main idea ,readers response, context clues
Week 14: December 2, 2024 ( story elements, grammar lesson)
Week 15: December 9, 2024 ( story map, context clues )
Week 16: December 16, 2024 (locating the main idea, spelling
Week 17: December 23, 2024 ( locating the main idea)
